Portfolio Analyst – Personal Lines

Responsibilities:
  • Provide thorough and in-depth analysis on product performance, segment performance and profitability
  • Analyze historical trends and identify areas of opportunity for expansion of existing products and introduction of the new products
  • Coordinate with Consumer Portfolio Analyst, F&A, MID Department for quarterly estimates from perspective of profit center. Manage routine financial projection to regional and NY office management. Gate keep financials, identify errors, and enforce correction before result finalizes.
  • Yearly budget preparation and consolidation, expense monitoring in the department
  • Work with the actuary to produce the data required for periodic rate evaluations and ad hoc rate analysis
  • Design and produce reports for the measurement of the effectiveness of underwriting programs and rate revisions
  • Work with system personnel to create data records to accommodate the collection of all relevant and useful information
  • Insure that fields are properly populated so data will be available for analysis. Work closely with O&S Manager to ensure coding accuracy
  • Insure that systems are adequate for the extraction and analysis of data for all lines of the personal lines book
  • Produce all periodic reports for monitoring all aspects of all PL book, reporting quarterly financial results and also produce ad hoc reports as requested
  • Design and produce reports for monitoring and management of all aspects of PL business, including : underwriting quality of the book; distribution of business by territory, class and other segments; management of distribution channels; claims monitoring; new and existing product production; any other aspects requested by the management
  • Design and produce reports for the measurement of results vs. budget and prior year
  • Produce cresta and any other reports for the management of catastrophic exposure and reinsurance programs
Requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree in quantitative discipline such as Finance, Accounting, IT, Statistic. MBA preferable.
  • At least 3 years experience in financial accounting, data mining / analysis or related financial reporting areas and also has 3-5 years experience in insurance portfolio management. Personal Lines business experience or underwriting discipline is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office applications including excel, power point, MS. Access, Word. Prior experience and skills in using Excel and MS. Access for data analysis is strongly recommended.
  • Self starter, ability to discover problems and implement solutions. Strong analytical and reasoning skills in interpretation of numbers.
